Synopsis: "Fairy tales are subversive in the detrimental role models they present to girls, the long lasting influences these models seem to have on the female imagination, and the support given to the fairy tale genre by child Psychologists. [This book] traces these influences and their shift over the last twenty-five years as feminism has developed. It does this by presentation and analysis of novels by a group of French and French Canadian women writers, each of whom recreates the basic pattern of well-known fairy tales in one of her books - Hebert, "The Silent Rooms," de Beauvoir, "Les Belles Images;" Blais, "Mad Shadows" Duras, "The Rapture of Lol V. Stein; Hyvrard, The Prunes of Cythera"; Wittig, "Les Guerilleres;" Bersianik, "The Eugelionne;" Belaunay, "A Bad Reading.
