About This Item

This is the softcover stated Ballantine Edition from January 1967. Other than a name on the inside cover, a top corner clip of the back cover and last few pages (no missing text!), and small cover to spine slits (fully intact!)--this is a unique book in that the previous owner obviously made an attempt to burn this book (see photo)---one may call it sacrilege--or one may call it life imitating art---it is nevertheless a curiosity!!! All text is included! **Note: All books listed as FIRST EDITIONS are stated by the publisher in words or number lines--or--only stated editions that include only the publisher and publication date. Check my feedback to see that I sell exactly as I describe.Acceptable

Synopsis

Fahrenheit 451 (Ballantine Books, 1953) by Ray Bradbury is a dystopian novel that presents a future American society in which the masses are hedonistic and critical thought through reading is outlawed. Written in the early years of the Cold War, the novel is a critique of what Bradbury saw as issues in American society of the era. Bradbury combined two of his early short stories, "The Pedestrian" and  "Bright Phoenix," into The Fireman, a novella published in the February 1951 issue of Galaxy Science Fiction. Bradbury's publisher at Ballantine Books then suggested that he expand the work to make into a novel—Fahrenheit 451.
