Title page has decorative elements surrounding the text, no additional engraved title, no evidence that one was ever bound in. Covers worn and rubbed, front cover detached, spine ends lightly chipped, text block sound, pages age-toned and foxed but generally clean with a few old underlines in the first meditation. . Sixth Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall.

Black leather label in second compartment with gilt-tooled title. Inscribed on blank leaf following front free endpaper: "Present to Miss Leah Achenbach as a token of respect by a Friend. Orwigsburg Sept. 6th 1852." The Foreward (Vorrede) by the author is dated "Libanon, März 15, 1836." Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: leather is rubbed; light foxing and browning; a few page corners creased; clean and tight.

Also text is very loose within itself but is quite clean. There are 2 stories in this book. Pencilled gift dated July 21, 1876 reads 'A present to jesse from his ma'ma For going to school every day but one'. Frep has small piece missing. Engravure frontispiece for Meggie Williams shows Meggie, a young boy and man at a grave site. Engravure frontispiece for polly shows children being handed cookies at a gathering. This book is published under the direct of the Tract Committee and the direction of the Committee of General Knowledge and Education, appointed by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. Printed in London. ; 33/4X53/4; 27+32+4 pages .

Jung, zu Doylestaun." 100 p.; 18 cm. (7 inches). Original calf spine with plain paper over boards. All page edges yellow. The author, Abraham Gottschall or Godshalk, was the minister of the Doylestown (Pa.) Mennonite Church from 1824 to his death in 1838. In Very Good Condition: edges are rubbed; slight loss of leather at ends of spine; leather starting to separate along front joint from tail of spine; boards slightly soiled; occasional light foxing; some pages have darkened more than others; a solid copy of this scarce American Mennonite work.
