Soft cover. 8vo. 22.5cm, in 2 volumes, 246 & 264pp., limited to 2200 copies, this being #1621, colour engraved plates, on rag paper, in sections (facsicules), original printed wraps, in the original dark blue, rounded spine backed open boxes, in slip cases, fine (lt) Jean de La Fontaine, (1621 1695) was the most famous French fabulist and one of the most widely read French poets of the 17th century. He is known above all for his Fables, which provided a model for subsequent fabulists across Europe and numerous alternative versions in France, and in French regional languages.
