About This Item

Paris: De l'Impremerie de Le Breton, 1769. 2 volumi rilegati in un tomo in 16 (cm 9,5 x 16,5), pp. (4) + LII + 177 + (1 bianca) con 1 tavola incisa all'antiporta; (4) + 306. Frontespizi stampati in nero e rosso. Molte pagine toccate da ampia gora. Legatura in piene pelle coeva con danni alle cerniere e al dorso. Edizione curata da Pierre Coste della raccolta di favole di La Fontaine (prima edizione: 1743). "Pierre Coste (1668-1747), a French Huguenot who took refuge in England after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, played a leading role in the dissemination of ideas and transmigrion of values. 12 Coste's work went both ways. Not only did he bring English thought to the attention of the French; he also published French writers such as Racine and works of his own such as L'Histoire du Prince de Conde' (1693) and introduced Montaigne, La Bruyere and La Fontaine to England. Translators like Coste and his contemporaries (Jean Le Clerc, Daniel Mazel and Pierre Desmoizeaux) were important links in the chain of French- English ex-changes, sparking new political, moral and social debates and providing sources of inspiration for the Encyclopedists and economists" (J. Delisle, J. Woodsworth, "Translators Through History", 2012, p. 200).

About Libreria antiquaria Coenobium

Coenobium Antiquarian bookshop was founded by Alessandro Santero in Asti (Piedmont, Italy) in 1987. In the early 1990s, the bookshop was admitted to join A.L.A.I. (Antiquarian Bookseller Association of Italy) thus starting to participate in the exhibitions organized by the association. Since 2005, adapting to the epochal changes that have also involved our sector, we have begun to offer online our catalogs. Our bookshop aims to offer a wide range of choice of antiquarian and rare books on all kinds of subjects: literature, social sciences, local history, travel and exploration, economics, twentieth century, avant-gardes, graphic design.
