About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. The classical book took place in Rome in the early 4th century AD, in the time of the ruthless oppression of the Christians during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. The leading character of the story is Fabiola, a beautiful young atheistic lady from an aristocratic Roman family. Fabiola is said to have all the important things in life such as a high education in the philosophers, but deep in her heart, she is not happy with what she has, she feels so empty. There was a time when she got mad that she wounded and almost killed her servant named Syra who is an unrevealed Christian girl. The high pride and bratty Roman lady, Fabiola, is converted to being humble and kind when she saw how meek, matured and fervent Syra is. She slowly got attracted into this good behavior since then.

Countless martyrdom stories of real Christian saints such as Saint Agnes, Saint Tarcisius and Saint Sebastian are interpreted into this fanciful book.

The author wrote Fabiola as his response to the forcibly anti-Christianity novel Hypatia written by Charles Kingsley. The book was entirely directed at the Catholic minority in England which is at war, who had presently loomed from a somewhat illicit standing.

Nicholas Patrick Wiseman was a Spanish Irish Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church who eventually became the first Archbishop of Westminster on the re-institution of the Catholic order in England and Wales in 1850.

Cardinal Wiseman was born in Seville, to parents James and Xaviera Strange Wiseman, of Waterford in Ireland, who emigrated in Spain for livelihood. When his father died in 1805, he was moved to his parent?s home town in Ireland. In 1810, He was enrolled at Ushaw College, near Durham, and studied there until he was 16, then he went to the English College in Rome. He finished his studies with a doctorate of theology with distinction in 1825, and got ordained to the priesthood the year after.
