About This Item

Berlin: Friedrich Ernst Hübsch Verlag, 1927. First edition. Hardcover. g. Quarto. xxvi pp., 78 plates. Original illustrated beige and brown cloth with reverse beige lettering on cover and spine. Illustrated endpapers. Publisher's logo on free endpaper and title page. Part of an extensive series of monographs on contemporary architects some of which were reprinted by Gebr. Mann Verlag between 1997 and 2002. This series contains publication on new architecture but also includes conservative architecture. Wagner-Poltrock was one of the architects who's formative years were during W.W.I and in the first years after. Subsequently many of his designs remained on paper, compared to the projects built. However, between 1924 and 1927 Wagner-Poltrock won 16 architectural competitions, most of them first prizes. From 1814 to 1925 he worked as a government building officer in Chemnitz where he establish his architecture firm in 1925 to advance to become of the most important Chemnitz architects of modern times. Astonishing is the versatility of his interests in his work and plans. It encompasses schools, churches, bridges, high risers, water towers, country homes, hunting lodges, castles, factories, streets. gardens, a stadium, even a cemetery was among his plans. Among the staff of his firm were Alfred Gerstenberg, Heinz Götze, Laurentinus Hinrichsen, Robert Jüttner, Friedrich Keller-Niederlenz, Herbert Neumeister, Waldemar Nödelchen, Erich Loebell, Gottfried Ruckdeschel, Hanns Wolfgang Scharre und Max Werner. Profusely illustrated with 78 plates containing b/w photographs and architectural drawings. Text in German. Binding rubbed with foxing to back cover. Endpapers and text pages foxed. Light foxing in margins of plates not affecting images. Binding and interior in overall good condition.
