About This Item

NP: S. F., 1931. Original document. Hardcover. g- to vg. Oblong quarto. Unpaginated. Original string bound black cloth.

Two striking textile sample catalogues containing no less than 107 mounted cotton samples of various shades and patterns from the German textile manufacturer S. F.

Both catalogues are dated 14. 8. 31 (August 14, 1931) and consists of over a hundred textile swatches introducing the latest collection of napkins and tablecloths from the S. F. company.

The first catalogue (11 1/2 x 7 1/4") dealing with patterns in color contains 61 samples mounted on 22 leaves, all with various floral and geometric embroidery designs. The swatches are mounted one to four per leaf (size varies from 4 3/4 x 2 3/4" to 15 x 6 1/2"). Mounted at rear are five color illustrations (9 x 6 1/4") depicting five models featured in the catalogue. Each sample has a hand-captioned sticker (3/4 x 1 1/8") pasted along fore-edge indicating the reference number of the model. Moderate rubbing along edges. Slight water-staining at lower front joint and along front hinge (not affecting samples). Some soiling to the first swatch. Captions in German. Binding in overall good, interior in good+ to very good, swatches in very good to fine condition.

The second catalogue (10 1/2 x 6 1/2") dealing with patterns in classic white contains 46 samples mounted on 39 leaves, all with various geometric and floral embroidery designs. The swatches are also mounted one to four per leaf (size varies from 5 3/4 x 2" to 14 x 6"). At center is mounted a 7 x 4" original silver gelatin print depicting a model which is not featured in this catalogue. Each sample has a hand-captioned sticker (3/4 x 1 1/8") pasted along fore-edge indicating the reference number of the model. Four of the 46 samples have patterns in color, the remaining are in classic white. Water-staining to upper spine. Back cover partly rippled, due to damp exposure. Lower front corner chipped, partly affecting leaves but not the samples. Captions in German. Binding in overall fair, interior in good to very good, samples in very good to fine condition.
