Original woodcuts by Franz Marc on title page, Heinrich Campendonk on page 72, two by Jacoba van Heemskerck on pages 64 and 65, and four untitled, tipped-in artworks on plates; two works by Rudolf Bauer, one three-color and a multicolor linocut, one by Jacoba van Heemskerck, a two-color woodcut, and one by Arnold Topp, a multicolor woodcut, three of them with tissue guards. Cover drawings by William Wauer. Dedicated to Franz Marc, August Macke, August Stramm and Umberto Boccioni. With a postcard-size invitation to a lecture by William Wauer on Expressionism at the Kunsthaus Berlin-Tempelhof on the occasion of the opening of an exhibition "Expressionistischer Arbeitsweise," and a postcard featuring work by Luigi Russolo, handwritten and addressed to a person in Vilna, Russia. Extraordinary publication by Herwarth Walden, one of the most illustrious personalities of modern art in Germany, featuring eight original graphics and b/w offset reproductions of artwork by the most prominent artists of the early 20th century. The volume contains artwork and an essay by Wassily Kandinsky, artwork by Marc Chagall with the poem "Marc Chagall" by Blaise Cendrars and an essay by Lothar Schreyer, artwork Franz Marc with an essay by Herwarth Walden, artwork by the Futurist Gino Severini, Alexander Archipenko, Fernand Léger, Robert Delaunay, Heinrich Campendonk, Oskar Kokoschka, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Maria Uhden, Marianne von Werefkin, Alexei von Jawlensky, Gabriele Münter and others. The volume closes with an essay on ideoplastic art by Max Verworn and a lengthy, illustrated poem entitled "Nacht" by Lothar Schreyer, including a drawing by Max Ernst, in the form Walden espoused and which would become known as "Wort-Kunst (Word-Art)."
