About This Item

London: Seeley and Co. Limited, 1890. Illustrated with 17 engraved plates and a mounted engraved frontispiece, large octavo, pp xvi, 318, top edge gilt, the other edges untrimmed, a neat owner's name opposite the half-title, a folding map in good condition at the rear, publisher's quarter morocco and cloth; sadly, the binding is not in good condition - the upper cover is very faded and marked and the spine is worn and lacking a few small pieces, the edges of the front endpapers and the half title are slightly stained, this has spread to the frontispiece though the actual image is barely affected (see illustration). [Large paper edition of 250 copies, of which this is number 183.]. First Edition. Quarter leather. Fair.
