About This Item

Birmingham: Thomas Pearson, 1790. First thus. Very Good+.

3 volumes li, 411; viii, 472; viii, 574 pp plus [6] pp Catalogue of Books Written by Dr Priestley 9 folding engraved plates, plate 1 forming frontis to Vol 1 (8vo) 20x12 cm (8x5"), bound in modern brown cloth, gilt spines First Collected Edition (Crook 461-63)

These are all six volumes of text revised, amended, and abridged of Priestley's experiments with gases and the account of the discovery of oxygen, supplemented by the later work that Priestley published in journals

All volumes are quite sound with the modern rebinding There is slight foxing on the plates but the text overall is very clean and unmarked, especially when considering their age Crook indicates the plates were 2 in Vol 1 (including the frontispiece) and 7 in Vol 3 In this set all 9 plates are bound in Vol 1, which is not uncommon
