Lipsiae: Imprimebat Iohannes Steinman, 1584. In Latin. Parts III and IV in one volume. Well preserved book on Lutheran theology and doctrine, controversial literature published during the Protestant Reformation. Each part has a title page. Part III includes: 1. De lege Diuina; 2. De peccato; 3. De libero arbitrio; 4. De Iustificatione; 5. De bonis operibus. Part IV includes: Continens Doctrinam de Ecclesia, Sacramentis, Poenitentia, Invocatione, cruce, libertate Christiana, magistratu politico & coniugio. Full decoratively stamped vellum or pigskin with M E C and 1584 stamped on the front cover, raised spine bands, 8.25 inches tall and aout 7 inches wide. [viii], 420, [6], 1-545, [3]. Includes ten woodcuts (two of them on colophons) and numerous decorative woodcut initials, tailpieces and other printer's embellishments There is also a printed appeal to Augustinus [Augustine of Hippo] in Latin mounted on the front pastedown. Covers have some age-darkening, especially to the spine, very minor roughness to the lower edge of the front cover near the joint, sound binding, age-toned pages with an old expert repair to two outer margins (text not affected), neat scholarly handwritten notes in Latin throughout.. Hard Cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
