About This Item

London, England : The Reprint Society/World Books, 1956. Soft cover. Very Good/Very Good. In Very Good Used Condition. With Minor Wear To Dust Jacket. - For More Information On Condition. Please See All Photos. It is impossible not to be fascinated by the story of Tenzing. Even those not interested in climbing mountains must find themselves held by the image of an illiterate boy herding yaks under the southern ramparts of Everest, looking up at them with longing and then, many years later, looking down from that summit which is the highest in all the world. Such a tale is bound to be one of courage and hardihood; yes, and of a noble ambition leading on towards that final goal. The chief doubt, for those who knew him, must have been whether the story could be well told. Tenzing could not write it himself. Mr. Ullman has succeeded remarkably in keeping his own personality, his own nation, out of the way; in giving the impression that it is Tenzing here speaking, telling quietly and very simply, with the occasional flashing smile, of his life and people, his religion and hopes, his moments of joy and disappointment.
