New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1842. EXTREMELY RARE FIRST AMERICAN EDITION THUS, FIRST PRINTING THUS. Hardcover. GOOD PLUS. HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents an authentic historical tale of the Knights for children, EVENINGS WITH THE CHRONICLERS, OR UNCLE RUPERT'S TALES OF CHIVALRY by E. M. EVANS. This EXTREMELY RARE FIRST AMERICAN EDITION (the original owner seems to have published it in December, 1841) hardback measures 4 5/8" x 6 7/8", has 184 pages (including 17 detailed full page illustrations) plus 13 pages of book ads at the back. There is no dust jacket (probably as designed). Overall condition is GOOD PLUS. Pages (designs on first and last fep's as well as front and back reverse covers) = Good: foxing throughout, owner's stamp used on many of the early pages, ink stains page 162, else no tearing or chipping, tight, sharp, clear print, no additional marks. Cover (tan cloth boards with debossed designs and gold gilt knight on a horse front, elaborate gold gilt designs and particulars on spine) = Good Plus: bits of cloth rubbed off at hinges, light rubbing to all, few small ink stains front, corners bent, else surprisingly tight, strong gilt, square. A TRUE COLLECTOR'S ITEM. Noted appraiser James Beattie assigns a value to this book of $$110.00
