Wikipedia - Alice Christiana Gertrude Meynell 11 October 1847 – 27 November 1922 was a British writer, editor, critic, and suffragist, now remembered mainly as a poet. The copy offered by us is from the library of Winifred Margaret Coombe Tennant with her armorial book plate to the front paste down. Tennant was a British suffragist, Liberal politician, philanthropist, patron of the arts and spiritualist. She was the UK's first female representative to the League of Nations and knew the Prime Minister, David Lloyd George well and also the Irish revolutionary, Michael Collins, at a historic time in Irish history. She also conducted an extra-marital affair with the cabinet member, Gerald Balfour (bbc uk news) Good/Good (Book - damp stains to cloth - mainly front board and fading to extremities. Mild to moderated foxing to end papers,prelims and last few blanks. Book plate as above to paste down. content related ink note to free front end paper - probably by Tennant. Binding Sound. Dust Jacket - age discoloured/ tanning with chips mainly to head of spine of up to 1 cm. Cover price to spine 5/- small tear of 15 mm aprrox to top of rear panel. No notable soiling. Now in a removable proprietary protective sleeve to which pieces of best match colour paper have been inserted in front of the stark white backing paper so as not to draw the eye on the bookshelf).
