London: George Redway, 1884. Hardcover. Near Fine. First book edition. Edited by W. E. Church. Folio. With a frontispiece portrait of Cruikshank etched by F.W. Pailthorpe. Extra illustrated throughout with original etchings and wood engraved plates designed by Cruikshank, including several hand-colored plates (many of which are folded). This copy also includes the original printed leaves of an article published in Scribner's Magazine: "A Collection of Unpublished Letters of Thackeray" (April 1887). Bound in contemporary red half morocco and marbled paper boards, gilt decorated spine with raised bands, marbled endpapers. Some light scattered foxing, near fine. The binding is signed "Ware Binder, Bristol." A beautifully bound and extra-illustrated copy.
