London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1937. Thick 8vo. 912 pp. Red cloth, black lettering (slight shelfwear, slight dustsoiling), w/ d.j. vivid Art Deco cover art illustration of escapee by Brien in red & black (minor chipping foot of spine, minor sunning to spine, slight shelfwear), NF/VG copy, w/ former ownership signature on ffep. Second printing of this rousing anthology of tales of escape, espionage, and more. These include: Sir Paul Dukes’ escape from Moscow; prisoner’s of war escaping from the Holzminden POW camp during World War I; escape by Captains Bott & White from an Ottoman POW camp during World War I on a Ukrainian ship; portions of John Grider’s “War Birds” diary, which was published surreptitiously by Springs; Kavanagh’s escape from Lucknow, which earned him the Victoria Cross, and many others. Dustjacket for this printing sports the Brien Art Deco cover art which was not present on the first.
