About This Item
New York: Eros Magazine, Inc., 1962. Autumn 1962 Volume One Number Three . Hard Back. Very Good/No Dust Jacket As Issued. 9" X 13. LuLubalin Herb - Art Director. 96 Pages. Front board top corner has been lightly bumped. Interior text and illustrations are flawless. The scratches and orange crosses on many of the photographs on the cover and pages are not defects. They were made by Marilyn herself in reaction to the shots that showed a strand of hair out of place or a pose she felt was awkward and were intentionally left in by the editor. Marilyn was delighted by the set as a whole. On June 21, 1962 photographer Bert Stern began to take the last studio pictures ever made of the woman who had become the sex symbol for the world. Six weeks after the memorable photographs on these pages were taken Marilyn Monroe was dead. Stern set out to photograph Marilyn as no one ever had before-as a fashion model for Vogue. Stern was also able to talk Marilyn into posing for the first time with no make- up other than a little eye shadow. Despite the fact that Marilyn was wearing strange clothes by a strange designer and although the photographer was new to her Marilyn became a fantastic model right before Stern's eyes. She would work until two and three in the morning playing her favorite Frank Sinatra records to help her react before the camera while the improvised studio at the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles became littered with rolls of film, lights, trays of food and bottles of champagne. Then one night Marilyn seemed to tire of posing in all the chic clothes from New York. She grabbed a flimsy bed jacket and whisked it away to the bedroom: When she emerged she was a different woman. While she laughed and relaxed and had a marvelous time Stern went on to take the pictures that appear in this issue.
