About This Item
1820. PICIARELLI, Camillo. Epistola di Camillo Piciarelli, Professore di Belle Lettere, sul Antico Naso di Fozio, pubblicato per almanacco dell'anno 1820. [xii], 39, [1] pp. Illustrated with an alligorical aquatint frontispiece. 8vo., 205 x 140 mm, bound in contemporary pattern wrappers, preserved in a new red half morocco box. Milan: Manini and rivolta, 1820. It is doubtful if there would be much interest in this work by an obsucre Italian academic, were it not for the fabulous frontisopiece by Antoine Louis François Sergent-Marceau. This depicts the upper part of a head, with the front of the skull removed. Inside are miniature figures of fantastical variety reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch. A fine copy with OCLC listing only copies at Columbia, UCLA and Chicago.
