Contemp. bookseller ticket to front flyleaf. Binding square & tight, text otherwise clean & bright.. Large 8vo. 6.75 x 9.25 in. 324 pp. [+ 2 pp. adverts.]. Publisher's cream buckram, titled & decorated in gilt & green, top edge gilt. Tissue-guarded photographic frontis. Illustrated with 'eleven plans drawn by ALLEN H. COX, and nearly three hundred reproductions of original photographs and drawings by the author. 'A large, handsome octavo, portly & imposing, enjoying the leisurely comforts of large type & a placid breadth of margin; a book which stands like a solid & substantial dowager among the lighter & more frivolous garden-sisterhood, -- charming but sometimes irresponsible' (Atlantic Monthly).
