About This Item
Baltimore, MD Penguin Books: Pelican , 1961. Paperback Third Edition (1961); Thirteenth Printing with several revisions (1975) First published in 1952. Very Good+ to Near Fine in Wraps: shows indications of very careful use: a small coffee-like stain to the top edge of the text block; a small, superficial scuff mark at the head of the backstrip; a hint of a crease at the upper front corner tip; a slight bend to the text pages at the lower corner; the expected light tanning to the text pages due to aging; the binding leans ever so sligthtly but remains secure; the text is clean. Free of creases to the backstrip. Free of any creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tighly bound, showing minor, unobtrusive imperfections but very little wear or signs of actually having been opened and read. Bright and clean. Close to "As New". Would make a very handsome reading copy. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo. (7.15 x 4.4 x 0.55 inches). 267 pages. Language: English. Weight: 6 ounces. Third Edition (1961); Thirteenth Printing with several revisions (1975) First published in 1952. Mass Market Paperback. The classic account of England under the Stuarts and in the Civil War. Maurice Percy Ashley CBE (1907 1994) was a noted historian of the 17th Century and editor of The Listener. He published over thirty books, of which his "Financial and Commercial Policy Under the Commonwealth Protectorate" (1934) achieved wide academic influence, while his biographies "Cromwell" (1937) and "General Monck" (1976) received particular praise.
