About This Item
England and the Octopus by Clough Williams-Ellis (Portmeirion: (Golden Dragon)*, new edition 1975).
Originally published by Geoffrey Bles in 1928, this copy being a new edition with an introduction by Lewis Mumford and a new preface by the author Clough Williams-Ellis (1883-1978), architect and designer of the Italianate village of Portmeirion in North Wales.
From the dustwrapper blurb: England and the Octopus heralded the modern movement to preserve the environment decades before that word had come into common use. Other earlier writers had campaigned against the destruction of our heritage: but this was almost the first book to which people paid the faintest attention.
Hardback in dustwrapper. pp xiv, 188. Size: 8.5 x 5.5 inches approx. (211mm x 140mm).
Dustwrapper lightly worn to extremities; foxing/spotting to verso with some showing through, especially to flaps and top edge. Cloth showing some marks but generally clean; spine ends a little turned-in. Poor paper stock age tanned throughout with some heavy foxing to edges of page-block.
Nonetheless, remaining a reasonably nice copy.
*Golden Dragon identified as the publisher to tail of spine.
*International shipping rates are estimated and may incur an extra charge prior to order fulfilment. Books are despatched via Royal Mail International Tracked/Signed; please enquire for an accurate shipping quote to your country.*
