Paper wraps plain beige before public issue which with a colorful dust jacket. Laid in is a long printed paragraph in German text of Adolph Hitler's key speech of January 30, 1933 which speaks of the importance of this as The Day in German History which ends the agony, shame and disgrace of the last 14 years [since Versailles] and now there is the honor of the beginning of a new state. No copies known with this insert. OCLC shows only five institutions with this copy.'.

The end of 1940 found Britain having escaped the imminent threat of invasion, but nonetheless beleaguered and pinning many hopes on the United States, which was still months away from approving the Lend Lease Act and nearly a year from formally entering the war. "With his thoughts focused on the many dangers in the Aegean and Mediterranean, Churchill broadcast on the evening of December 23 to the Italian People." (Gilbert, Volume VI, p.960). The eight-page, wire-stitched pamphlet measures 6 x 9 inches (15.2 x 22.9 cm). Condition is near-fine. The paper is bright, clean, and crisp showing virtually no wear. This polemic on the First World War ("a lively indictment of Mars and his backers.") appeared in the run up to WWII and provides a fascinating view into the appeasement debate of the time. The work was inspired by Tomlinson's hatred of war, reflected in both the book's title and amazing jacket art, gained through his years as war correspondent in Belgium and France during the Great War.
A lovely copy, near fine if not better, in an equally near fine, bright dust wrapper with some wear to the bottom folds, two miniscule edge tears and slightly soiled rear panel and spine.
