A beautifully illustrated, scarce edition of John Keat's celebrated iambic poem, 'Endymion'. First edition thus. With six engraved plates, which have been produced by F Joubert from paintings by E.J Poynter. First edition thus, of this work. Collated, complete. Jean Ferdinand Joubert de la Fernte was noted for developing new photographic techniques and his engraved notable postage and revenue stamps. The engravings are from paintings by the English designer Sir Edward John Poynter. Poynter was the president of the Royal Academy. Endymion is a popular poem based on the Greek myth of the same name. It was dedicated to Thomas Chatterton and is written in rhyming couplets and iambic pentameter. It elaborates on the original story and renames Selene 'Cynthia'. In a half morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart. Patches of rubbing to the joints and extremities. A few light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the occasional light spots. Very Good
