About This Item

London: John Lehmann Ltd, 1952. First GB Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good-/Very Good-. Roy Sanford (dust jacket). Small 8vo. Pp. 240. Blue cloth, titles and decorations stamped in gilt on the spine: mild spine lean, owner ink initials on the front free endpaper. In the two color illustrated dust jacket with price 10s 6d intact on the front flap: spine slightly darkened, and with slight edge-wear. The author's once-controversial 1947 first novel set in a military academy, in its first English edition. The dust jacket, with a superb Roy Sanford illustration alluding to the novel's sordidness, is now housed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
