About This Item

London: Cassell and Co., 1943. First Edition. Leatherbound. Very Good. A very good leatherbound copy of the Second Printing of the First English edition (dated December 1943) rebound in 3/4-navy blue leather over the original blue cloth boards, gilt lettered on the spine in an exact replica of the original lettering, with gilded top edge. There is rubbing to the spine, and interlocking cup stains on the cloth of the rear board. The front hinge is beginning to give but the contents are fine. An elaborate presentation bookplate is affixed to the front pastedown: “With Compliments of the Chairman and the Board of Directors of the General Fire Appliance Company Limited, 11 Waterloo Place.” Strikingly similar to the manner and style in which Winston Churchill had his books leatherbound for presentation.
