A truly lovely set A wonderful Edwardian compendium of encyclopedic knowledge regarding all manner of field sports and athletic endeavors. There are articles on big game hunting by the likes of H. A. Bryden, A. M. Naylor, F. V. Kirby, R. Lydekker, H. G. C. Swayne, E. N. Buxton, F. C. Selous, and H.R. P. Carter. The articles are categorised by game species (i.e. antelope, elephant, etc.) as well as a long, general article on big game shooting with a lengthy bibliography. The four-volume edition features extended coverage of topics such as cricket, fencing, fishing, ballooning, air flight, track and field, skating, etc. Highlighted by the lovely coloured plates by Archibald Thorburn, Edmund Caldwell and others. Numerous photos and diagrams.
