New York, Chicago, Boston: The American Historical Society, 1916. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. 394pp. including index, illus. (some color), frontis., 28cm. 4to. 3/4 crushed red morocco and cloth over boards, gilt stamped spine lettering. Book Condition: spine split along most of the length of the upper cover, with cracking and splitting and chipping to leather in several other places. Binding very sound, interior, including plates bright and umarred for the most part. Good Only. An assortment of plates, the majority of which are portraits of the New York notables featured, the remainder being various family coat-of-arms. Portraits are an assortment of photographic reproductions, woodcuts, and engravings in steel. A roster of artisans responsible for the illustrations include: W.T. Bather, Campbell Bros., E.G. Williams and Bros., Marcus Ulbrichtz, J.C. Buttre, and H.B. Hall's Sons.
