Robinson was a Columbia grad and native of Ulster County, NY - by the time of this publication, he had lived and written in Woodstock for 26 years [and that was still years before Woodstock was to become - well - Woodstock, even though that was actually in Bethel, more than sixty miles...never mind]. In addition to a number of verse collections - from which he selected those in this volume - Robinson wrote several novels, the most famous being The Cardinal (1950), filmed in 1963 by Otto Preminger with Tom Tryon in the title role. He died on December 23, 1960, of complications from second- and third-degree burns suffered three weeks earlier when he fell asleep in a hot tub at the University Club at Columbia. L14n
