A few small, light spots of soil to back cover, otherwise a bright copy. ; Red cloth lettered and ruled in black; illustrated with period reproductions from newspaper articles and cartoons; colored portrait photograph and a drawing of the Emperor. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 30 pages; No. 4 of 50 copies reserved for private distribution. This copy warmly inscribed by Dressler on front endpaper, "To John Newbegin, my faithful friend, I dedicate this book in the spirit of Good fellowship, Albert Dressler, Sacramento Calif. , Publication day." Albert Dresler was born in San Francisco on September 29, 1887. At various times he was a cartoonist, author, antique collector, historian, and reporter. John Newbegin was a pioneer San Francisco bookseller and publisher. .

San Francisco: Albert Dressler, 1927. Albert Dressler (1887-1960), a cartoonist and California historian, wrote and self-published this sweet history of San Francisco's favorite looney. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition, LIMITED to 550 copies, with 50 reserved for private distribution. A Very Good copy; red cloth binding with black lettering; binding is firm but has moderate soiling. The text is clean and fresh; 31 pages, with many charming illustrations. Quercus speculates that this is one of the reserved copies as it has been SIGNED and INSCRIBED by the author on the FFEP to Everett Sanders (1852-1950), American political figure, on the day of publication. No dustjacket, and lacking the separte proclamation sheet. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Limited/Numbered.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
