A name and a date are written inside the front cover. There are some markings on the back cover that one can see if one holds it in the light correctly. No underlining, no highlighting, no bookplates, not ex-libris, no remainder marks, no dogeared pages, no foxing, no smudges. "Helmira" as it has been called, had a death rate almost equal to that at Andersonville. This is the definitive work on a Union prison compound that never should have been one of the worst in the Civil War. A highly serviceable copy, available for immediate shipment.
