About This Item
London: Thomas Tegg, 1840. 11th ed. (1st-1761) . Hardcover. Good+ for Age. 15 Cms x 23 Cms. DARK BLIND-STAMPED CLOTH BINDING. xvi+484+8 (pib.lists); internally tight, part unopened, and generally clean although has the odd brown spot (inc.a small one from pp.310-319 which slightly affects text on leaf 311-12), half-title and t.p. slightly tanned, a clumsy opening has caused loss to most of margin on leaf xv/xvi with missing bit folding over from previous leaf), front pastedown has brown central rectangle off-set from an insettion (now absent), end-gutters good; covers generally clean butsome splits to front joint, very short one to back joint and corners bumped, main problem is two 2.5 cm wide white ghosts of some kind of labels presumably across top spine, above and below, title extending c. 2cms onto covers. The note on t.p. 'with the Author's last Corrections and Additions' first appeared on 8th edition Home died in 1782). The title is a little misleading for modern readers as it is incudes a historically important discussion of the nature of emtoions and 'passions' as well as covering beauty and 'Beauty of Language'. Scarce but this clearly a reference/working copy.
