A memorial volume to Daniel Webster, reprinting "his favorite poem," with a biographical introduction and each page of text handsomely illustrated. At the end are some "additional stanzas" to Gray's Elegy by James D. Knowles and a poem, "The Great are Falling From Us," by Thomas Buchanan Read. Moses Dow was editor and publisher of the Waverley Magazine, "the largest paper in the world," he claimed. First edition thus BAL 16440 (Thomas Buchanan Read). Frontispiece portrait of Webster; two prefaces, with each stanza on a page with a border and a woodcut illustration. . 4to., xii, xxxii, (viii), Binding frayed with spotting and worm-holes along spine, front hinge cracked; frontis and title-page foxed with yellowed margins on tp, occas. light soiling .
