London: George Routledge and Sons, 1879. FIRST EDITIONS, 4 vols., bound as 1, 4to, pp. 30, [2], 30, [2], 30, [2]. 31, [1]. Full-page colour illustrations included within pagination. Each booklet bound as issued with illustrated self-wrappers. Modern brown textured cloth, front board lettered direct in gilt, edges sprinkled red. A little soiled, some edge tears sometime repaired with tape, small section of one wrapper torn away. The first printings of four of Caldecott’s popular ‘Picture Books’, which were much-reprinted into the 20th century. The first one here illustrates a poem by Oliver Goldsmith.

Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland.
