Front illustration is signed E.O., for Eleanor Onderdonk, who also did the illustrations for Chabot's "San Fernando: The Villa Capital of the Province of Texas." Eleanor Rogers Onderdonk, was born in San Antonio on October 25, 1884, the second of three children born to Emily and Robert Jenkins Onderdonk. Stimulated by the work of her father and her brother Julian Onderdonk, she became an artist and was the art curator for the Witte Museum in San Antonio. – Handbook of Texas. Has a timeline of San Antonio's history from 1714 to 1842, with a brief sketch of the significant events. "The rapid growth of San Antonio dates from 1876, when the first railway (Sunset Route) entered the city. From 1879-1880 to 1887, the population increased from 14,894 to 42,570; from 1900 to 1910, the population increased from 53,321 to 96,614.
