Preface and copyright information dated to 1880. 66pp plus 18pp of advertisements from New Bedford and Boston businesses. This publication provides detailed information on about 375 lighthouses along the East Coast of the United States. Entry example: "Newburyport Light - This light is fixed, white; and can be seen on a very clear night 11 miles. It is located on north end of Plum Island, and south side of entrance to Newburyport. The tower is white, with black lantern." The son of famous cartographer George Eldridge, George W. Eldridge made his own mark when he published the indispensible "Tide and Pilot Book" which is still used today. This publication on lighthouses and fog signals was less successful, with only one edition printed. No copies on OCLC as of August 2019. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 66 pp .
