London: The Religious Tract Society, 1925. First edition. Hardcover. Fine. 8vo. 323pp. Blue cloth, spine with gilt title, and title in blind on the upper board. Illustrated with 32 illustrations, of which 4 are in color, Constance Baikie.. Ownership name of C. Sumner Greene, the architect, on the front free endpaper. Laid-in is an obituary of his son, Thomas Gordon Greene. The color frontispiece is from a papyrus illustration of Osiris in his shrine.
Baikie is considered an expert in Egyptian papyri. This book explores the history of papyrus as a writing material, as well as hunting for and collecting Egyptian papyri.
