Book #16 in the YA boys series featuring Rick Brant & ex-Marine pal Scotty, who live on Spindrift Island off the New Jersey coast with Rick's father, who heads a group of scientists. The boys share thrilling adventures & solve mysteries through across 24 books, published 1947-1968. With brown patterned cloth-covered boards stamped with black design & lettering to front cover & spine, this is a true FIRST EDITION, first printing, from 1961, listing to self in front matter & rear flap. It was also the last title with a DJ before switching to the picture cover format in 1962. Condition is Near Fine, marred only by mild discoloration to external page edges. Interior is completely clean, pages creamy white & unmarked, binding strong & straight, hinges secure. The unclipped DJ (with orig. $1.25 price sticker stuck inside book) is VG: exceptionally bright & colorful, but downgraded due to missing front flap, many small chips & slight rubbing to extremities.
