About This Item

New York, New York: Avenel, 1984. First Thus . Hardcover. Near Fine/Fine. Gorey, Edward. Gorey personally selected this collection of 12 sinister & scary stories by authors like Wilkie Collins, Algernon Blackwood, Charles Dickens, E. Nesbit, R. L. Stevenson, Bram Stoker, & more. He prefaced each story with a full-page, pen-and-ink illustration, & also created the DJ art. Orig. published in 1959, this is the First Edition (Toledano B9-d), First Printing ('a') from Avenel/Crown from 1984 (First, Thus). Hardcover 8vo with black cloth-covered boards & bright green lettering to spine is in Near Fine condition: exceptionally clean & bright, marred only by light soiled spot/dust dulling to outside fore edge pages. Else, binding strong & straight, hinges intact, pages creamy white with age-appropriate tanning around edges, but unmarked. The unclipped DJ is Fine, protected in clear mylar cover since purchased brand new (by me, duplicate from my collection). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day. (We are also offering a copy of the true first edition of this book from Looking Glass Library; please see our listing #022326).
