THIS IS A PUBLISHER ODDITY Edward Eager's Magic Tales is a slip-cased set of seven books, classics of children encountering magic in the world around them. This is a slip-cased set of the first six titles (Seven-Day Magic not present), with the case listing all seven titles, but the case is sized for only the six books included. This appears to be the way the bindery produced this set, and I can find no reports of others like it. The box gived its copyright date as 1999, while the copyright for this edition is given as 2001 for each book. The books indicate they are 4th or 5th printings, so it is hard to specify the exact printing. The books are for the most part in As New condition, save for Knight's Castle, which has some slight folding of the rear cover. The slip cover has sticker residue on the front cover, residue on the top back corner, and minor bump damage, but is otherwise intact. The greatest fault with the set is that one book of the set is not included, and the case has no room for it if it were present. These books are classics for children, and fall among the books we recommend most often for young readers who like fantasy. They are hard to find in any condition, and this set is a delightful way to introduce them to a new generation (or remind the reader of why they loved them in days passed). The Original interior illustrations by N. M. Bodecker are preserved in the edition, with cover art by Quentin Blake. The weight for the boxed set is over two pounds.
