About This Item

New York: Viking Press, 1936. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good+/Very Good+. 8vo. Pp. viii, 447. Black cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the cover and spine, endpaper maps: light soiling to cover boards, edges mildly age toned. In the three-color illustrated dust jacket with the $2.50 price intact; edges a bit rubbed and with short closed tears. Third installment in Zweig's Great War of the White Men, or Grischa novel series, completed after he fled Hitler's Germany where the first draft had been confiscated. The Paul Wenck dust jacket is a dynamic art-deco design, cleverly maximizing a limited color palette. Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
