About This Item

London & Sydney: Macdonald & Co., 1986. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Fine. 9.5" by 6". None. A signed first edition of Francome and Macgregor's Eavesdropper. First edition. Signed by John Francome. John Francome (born 1952) is a former National Hunt Champion Jockey. After retiring Francome was awarded the MBE in 1986 for services to racing. He was a trainer for 18 months before becoming a TV presenter for Channel 4's horse racing broadcasts. Francome has taken to writing works of fiction. His books have featured on the bestseller lists. "A trainer loses his licence; a jockey is warned off: all in a day's work for the senior steward of the Jockey Club. But when the blackmailing starts, when a most influential corpse is found in a horse box at Newbury races, a cloud of corruption, suspicion and violence threatens to overwhelm the National Hunt season. James Thackeray, racing journalist, erratic tipster, amateur jockey, had every reason to turn detective. He'd found the body. But it was only a matter of time before the villains found him. Saddling up for the Grand National might just be the last thing he ever did..." Bound in paper covered boards with gilt lettering and an unclipped dust wrapper. There is very slight wear to the extremities, including some slight bumping and fading. The dust wrapper has almost no wear. Internally the pages are clean and bright. Near Fine
