Boston: Roberts, Brothers, 1868. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Book. 8vo - over 7¾. VG. viii, 677 pp., 2 ad pp., First U.S. edition. The first American edition is made up from the sheets of the UK edition with Strangeways and Walden imprint on recto of title leaf and misprint in line 20 of page 75 "my" for "thy." The first part of Morris's second book, published in three volumes between 1868 and 1870. THE EARTHLY PARADISE, part of Morris's immense poetry cycles looking back to mythic times, "deals extensively in Greek myth, incorporating for example his THE LIFE AND DEATH OF JASON (1867), which alone runs to an exhausting 10,000 lines." - VG overall. Contemp green cloth has minor bubbling on front board, mild wear on spine tips. One FFEP cut. Interior clean. Clumsy cutting at bottom of two prelim pages. Photos available upon request.
