New York: Hurst & Company, 1890. Hardcover_cloth. Collectible - VeryGood. 5.13"x7.5". 172 pgs. 1 leaf advertisements. Sage green cloth boards. Decorative design in black on front and spine. Lowell on spine insided silver metallic block. Hurst & Company published between 1880 -1915 so book would have been published between that time. Spine straight, binding tight, pages toned, no marks. 2.25" crack in hinge inside front cover exposing muslin. Soiling to cover. Dust stained edges. Bumps to corners. Crack in cloth along spine on front cover .25". Edge wear, rubs along spine, fraying to crown and heel of spine. TRC of page 7 missing. James Russell Lowell was an American Romantic poet, critic, editor, and diplomat. He is associated with the Fireside Poets, a group of New England writers who were among the first American poets who rivaled the popularity of British poets. These poets usually used conventional forms and meters in their poetry, making them suitable for families entertaining at their fireside. Some poems are: Appledore; To the Dandelion; Dara; A Song; Out of Doors; New Year's Eve, 1844; The Serenade; The Bobolink; Love's Altar; The Beggar; and many more including sonnets.
