Synopsis

The Dyer’s Hand and Other Essays written by W.H. Auden contains a collection of essays, reviews, and lectures written between 1950 and 1962. The book portrays insight of Auden's’ teachings as a professor of poetry at the University of Oxford, characterized by his aphorisms and notes. Many of these pieces were not previously published and were first released in this collection. One of the more famously recorded pieces in the book was his inaugural lecture, “Making, Knowing and Judging”. The book was dedicated to Auden’s tutor at Oxford, Nevil Coghill.
