About This Item

New York, NY: Century Co.. Very Good. 1911. 1st American Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. This book is in Very Good condition and is lacking the dust jacket. The spine ends of the book cover have some beginning bumping. The spine has noticeable fading and there are two inch long spots of darker ink on the spine. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's gift notation on the front endpaper. "Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 810." A novel of horror and occult. "The Dweller on the Threshold refers to a purported invisible and possibly malevolent entity that attaches to a human being. The term was first used by Edward Bulwer-Lytton in his novel Zanoni. In theosophical literature, Helena Blavatsky describes it as the discarded astral double of an individual in a previous life that may not have fully disintegrated yet when that individual is reborn. Thus the dweller will be drawn to the new incarnated personality due to their affinity. Sometimes this entity is also called Guardian of the Threshold." This novel deals with psychological transference and personality disorders. .
