Preface by Phyllis McGinley. Unclipped dust jacket. Cloth-backed pictorial boards. Spine lettering stamped in black and white. Top edge dyed red. Illustrated endpapers. Profusely illustrated in black, white, and olive in text and plates by Sendak. Conforms to all points in Hanrahan A38. Binding solid, tight, and square. Black and white stamped board illustrations bright and sharp. Tips sharp. Light shelf wear at head and tail of spine. Cloth back strip and text block edges slightly age toned. Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown. Else, internally clean and unmarked throughout. Dust jacket rubbed, edge worn, torn and taped with some loss (see photos). Dust jacket now in protective archival sleeve.
