About This Item
HMT Dunera, which brought to Australia 2000 mostly Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany and Austria in 1940, is a byword for both shame and triumph. The shame of the treatment of these victims of fascism, and the triumph of many of these refugees lives, who did so much for Australia and other countries where they ended up. This book, mostly pictorial, tells the story of the Dunera refugees. It's a lavish production and full of interesting information - did you know that Erwin Fabian, who designed many covers for Penguin Books in the 1950s, was a Dunera boy? Neither did I. One of the last books to involve the authorship of Ken Inglis, wonderful historian and lovely man.
