NY: Charles Scribner's Sons [1928]. 8vo, xii 409pp. Black cloth with spine stamped in gold and color pictorial label affixed to the front. Color pictorial endpapers; 14 color plates, color plate title page and numerous b&w illustrations. Light rubbing to spine ends, lower corners, and rear cover, slight scratching to paper label with ¾ x ¼ inch piece excised in lower left corner, else a clean, surprisingly bright copy.
First Wyeth-illustrated edition. Having served in World War I, James Boyd brought his experiences as a soldier to this novel, set during the American Revolution. Originally published in 1925 without the Wyeth illustrations, this 1928 edition was the first to feature Wyeth's vibrant watercolor illustrations.
