[George Zabriskie Clay was an Episcopal clergyman in New York, who has been associated with the work of Church reform and reunion in Europe undertaken by the Protestant Episcopal Church].
8vo. 362pp. Maroon cloth with paste-on painting to cover and gilt lettering to cover and spine. Seated in original slipcase. Top edge gilt. Fore- and bottom edge untrimmed. Frontispiece, protected by tissue guard. Great work by the renowned American journalist, writer and founder of the first modern US newspaper syndicate Irving Bacheller (1859-1950). This work is a tale of the American Pioneers, that takes place during the War of 1812 [against the British]. The main hero, Darius a.k.a. "D'ri" symbolizes the purebred Yankee: Quaint, rugged, wise and truthful. Magnificently illustrated with 8 full-page duo-tone plates, including frontispiece. Minor rubbing, scuffing to boards and spine. Corners bumped. Frontispiece loose but present. In very good condition.
